My friend and I decided to go on vacation together because after having to deal with 2020 to date, we all need a vacation. We chose Key West because many countries outside of the United States, are not allowing non-citizens in due to Covid-19 restrictions. And so, Key West was the best option as this island is located at the southernmost point of the United States and is only 90 miles from Cuba. It is basically like a Caribbean island but in the United States. Prior to going, I had read and heard mixed reviews about Key West that ran the gamut from boring and lacking diversity to it being quiet and relaxing. I am here to tell you Key West did not disappoint at all.

Airfare-I flew to Key West with United Airlines from Newark Liberty International Airport. I had a connecting flight in Fort Lauderdale as there were no direct flights to Key West from New Jersey.

Lodging-I stayed at the Pier House, a modern and chic resort that has a private beach. I highly recommend this hotel. Since we are still in the middle of a pandemic the hotel exercised Center for Disease Control’s guidelines which meant everyone had to have a mask on while indoors.  The hotel did not offer housekeeping due to pandemic staffing cuts but I was able to get fresh towels daily.

– Key West has a variety of restaurants and pubs. And so I ate fresh seafood throughout my entire stay. But a highlight of my trip was when I dined at Conch Republic Seafood Restaurant which I highly recommend. I ordered bacon wrapped shrimp stuffed with crab meat that was served with mixed vegetables and yellow rice. It was absolutely delicious. As I dined there, I also sipped on a key lime martini which tasted just like a key lime pie but in the liquid form. And speaking of key lime pie, I was able to get a slice from Key Lime Pie Company
which I also recommend.

Shopping/Night life-Duval Street is the perfect place for shopping and night life. This popular street is filled with boutiques, street vendors, bars, and clubs.  I highly recommend going to Fat Tuesday for drinks and dancing. I actually went there two nights on vacation because the vibe was that great. The live DJ spun popular music, people danced, sipped cocktails, and played pool.

Activities-I went parasailing for the first time and it was so much fun. I used Fury Water Adventures  and the staff were polite and professional. The cost of parasailing was $72. During the adventure, the staff took pictures and video which was an additional $40. I also took a  Sunset Cruise with Floridays/Island Jane Carter that I booked Viator. It costed $65.  On the cruise, we were able to sip on champagne, wine, or beer while we sailed around Key West island watching the sunset.

All and all, I had the most amazing time in Key West. The crystal blue water and pristine beaches definitely did not disappoint. I highly recommend going there for a getaway. I am already checking my calendar to see when I can return because Key Wese is a total vibe.
