Beauty & Essex is one of the dopest restaurants in New York City. A few weeks ago, I took my cousin there for brunch and she was amazed. The restaurant is an unexpected and understated space. The front of the restaurant has a pawn shop with vintage jewelry and wall-hung guitars. And if one continues down the corridor to back of the restaurant, they enter into a beautifully decorated, dining space where delicious food is served.
Similarly to Beauty & Essex, I believe that some people in life are often pre-judged solely on their appearance. And appearance is not always reality. Recently, I was watching an episode of Basketball Wives. On this episode, Evelyn Lozada was speaking of her daughter Shaniece Hairston saying that people would think her daughter is one way because of her daughter’s looks. Instead, Shaniece has a forgiving heart, does yoga, and is very zen.
I often have people misperceive me. Prior to conversing with me, people have thought I am mean, conceited, materialistic, unintelligent, and unkind; misperceptions based simply on my appearance. Now I could be all, some, or none of those aforementioned things but how would one know if they have never even had a conversation with me. Most of my friends describe me as down to earth and funny.
Misperceptions are baseless and rudimentary. Let us rid ourselves of surface level misperceptions and stereotyping about people we do not even know. Let us delve deeper.
Here’s my food review on Beauty & Essex in NYC.
Below you will find my rating for the following categories: Ambiance, Service, and Food. On a scale from 1-5, 5 reflects excellent and 1 indicates poor/needs improvement.
- Ambiance- I give it a 5 out of 5. The decor is funky and unexpected. As described above, the front of the restaurant is a pawn shop and the back is a swanky restaurant.
- Service-4.5 out of 5! Each and every time I have dined at Beauty & Essex, the service has been good. It gets pretty busy on the weekend yet the waiters/waitresses have consistently been attentive and professional.
- Food-4.5 out of 5! The food is delicious! I’ve been to Beauty & Essex several times and I have never been disappointed. A few of my favorite items on the menu are the Red Velvet Waffles; Grilled Cheese, Smoked Bacon, and Tomato Soup Dumplings; Kale and Apple Salad.
All in all, I highly recommend Beauty & Essex. The ambiance, service, and food are all top notch. This restaurant is great for brunch with your girlfriends, a family meetup, or perfect for a hot date.
